This custom rifle is based on an orignal Oberndorf Mauser 1896 pattern action. The stripper clip slots, rear action screw hole, and thumb cutout are weld-filled, and a custom square bridge and Griffin & Howe style side-mount base are welded in place. Bottom metal is by Ted Blackburn, as is the trigger, although the finger piece is replaced by an original Mauser unit.
The jewelled bolt features a 2-panel checkered knob and a LaPour custom 3-position, side-swinging safety.
A New England Custom Gun banded ramp front sight, sling mount, and rear sight base (with their classic adjustable sight) adorn the cryo-treated Pac-Nor "Match Plus" chrome-moly barrel. Chambering is in 6.5X57 Mauser, optimized for current bullets & powders (reamer available through JGS as the 6.5X57 LaPour).
Bruce Farman fashioned the stock in the American Classic style from Bastogne walnut, and checkered it at 22 LPI, using a wraparound forearm and 2-panel grip pattern. The finish is custom Pro-Oil, and the forearm tip is of ebony, while the grip cap and buttplate are solid steel Dakota items.
All steel parts are hot-dip blued over a satin glass-beaded finish.
The scope is a Kahles American series 2-7X36mm on a 1" tube, with a aluminum 2-lever Griffin & Howe mount, finished with Tef-Cote.
